Find your specifications
If the PC works, Windows can tell you almost everything. Press Ctrl, Shift and Esc to open Task Manager and choose the Performance tab. For the motherboard, type “System Information” into the Start menu.
| Component | What to tell us | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Graphics card | The exact model and memory, for example “RTX 3070 8GB”. | Task Manager, Performance tab, GPU |
| Processor | The full name, for example “Ryzen 7 5800X” or “Core i7-12700K”. | Task Manager, Performance tab, CPU |
| Memory | Total size, and how many sticks if you know (for example 2 x 16GB). | Task Manager, Performance tab, Memory |
| Storage | Each drive’s size and type (NVMe SSD, SATA SSD or hard drive). | Settings, System, Storage |
| Motherboard | Make and model. | System Information, “BaseBoard Product” |
| Power supply | Make and wattage. | The label on the side of the power supply |
| Cooling and case | Air cooler or all-in-one liquid cooler, and the case model if you know it. | Look through the side panel |
If the PC does not start, the original order confirmation or parts list is the next best thing. Many components also have their model printed on them where you can see it through a glass panel. If you are not sure about a part, say so. “I don’t know” is better than a guess.
